All of us have so much to do within the 24 hours that we have every day. Due to our hectic social and professional schedules we rarely have time for our workouts. HIIT is the solution for all the fitness freaks who want to maintain their body despite their hectic schedules.
What is HIIT workouts for weight loss ? High Intensity Interval Training is actually an intense form of exercise with frequent short breaks in between. 1) We end up burning more calories during a 20 minute HIIT work out than other people who do 60 minutes of cardio. 2) A HIIT workout a) Begins with a brisk warm up session of 5 minutes. b) This is followed by a high intensity exercise regimen which helps burn a higher number of calories (e.g. 30 seconds of intense sprinting). c) This is followed by a short break with moderate intensity exercise (e.g. one minute of jogging). d) It finally ends with stretching exercises of a low intensity or a walk while allowing the body to cool down. The benefits of HIIT are: a) Less oxygen is consumed during the workout – so the body takes in more oxygen after the exercise regimen thus boosting the rate of metabolism and thereby burning more fat over the next 24 hours. b) More insulin is absorbed by the body muscles during an HIIT work out so the blood glucose levels remain steady for a longer period thereby increasing the glucose tolerance level of our body. c) During a HIIT workout we burn the excess fat that is deposited in various parts of our body. d) A HIIT workout stimulates the hormones of our body which help to build up our muscle mass. e) The High Intensity Interval Training makes the heart beat faster which helps to strengthen it. During the short breaks of the workout, the heart gets back to normalcy at a faster rate thus improving the health of the cardio vascular system of our body. Recommendations: a) A HIIT regimen is intense – so it needs to be initiated at a slow pace of once or twice in a week. b) Once the body adapts to the intensity of the workout and builds up more endurance HIIT can be done for up to four times a week. c) HIIT is an intensity program involving increased wear and tear of muscles, tendons and ligaments. We may end up feeling burnt out or sore, therefore the body must be allowed to recover completely for at least two days in a week. d) It is always advisable to consult a physician before starting any exercise regimen. The beauty of a HIIT workout is that we can literally whip ourselves into shape during our office break or just before important occasions of our lives. And the battle against the bulge can be won if we follow a consistent 20 minute HIIT regimen for at least 3 days a week.
